Erica Orloff posted a picture of my writing desk at her blog! It started a really cool discussion about writing spaces and I'm thinking of painting my room yellow because someone mentioned that it's a good color for creativity. (Hey, I'll stop at nothing to make writing easier!)
My gal pals and I discovered a cool book Friday night. Yes, we were fueled by bellini's, martini's and good-old estrogen. Anyway, it's called Colorstrology and I think this will be a fun writing tool to create characters.
Later this week I'll post the second part of my thoughts on selling a book. In the meantime, rock on.

If you plug in "color psychologu" into a search engine, there's definitely some stuff out there on colors and their influence. Blues and greens are good bedroom colors . . . yellow for offices . . .
In my next house, I want a deep green office. With a built-in wine cooler. ;-)

My name is Cali Castillo and I'm a Black Latina of British origin, who's attempting to break into this crazy business.
I sent my manuscript in to Kensington Books late February and the Friday after it arrived, my agent received a call on Monday.
They wanted to know if I had anything to contribute to their future Latino imprint.
I didn't have anything, but I didn't waste any time in putting something together (editor wanted to see the first three chapters).
I began posting my WIP on a blog and it was initially dedicated to the editor at Kensington who I was corresponding with...but the blog blew up. And since it was actually against their protocol (e-mails and references to specific editor), I had to shut it down.
Yet, I started a new one and have twice as many readers. They all sought me out, so I can't tell you how good that made me feel.
My progress is also still being monitored by the editor. And my first manuscript remains under consideration.
My agent, who also happens to be my aunt and the mother of R&B singer, Keyshia Cole (if you like R&B...buy my cousin's album--sorry, have to give props)asked if my first manuscript had been rejected, but they said it hadn't been.
So, I don't know.
The editor says we have her drooling for the second, though.
My protagonists, like me, are Black Latinas (the Hernandez sisters)...and I feel a book focusing on such protagonists will be a great addition to the market...since several people don't seem to realize we come in Black as well.
Anyhow, I just thought I would stop by and say hello.
I love your work and I'm going to continue to buy every book you write.

If there are readers who want your work, there is a chance (a big one) that you'll find your book at Barnes & Noble. This is a fickle business because it's based entirely on opinion. Market research can only do so much, but readers might love one kind of book only to tire of it later.
Have you contacted Random House? They publish my bud, Sofia Quintero under their One World imprint.
