Discipline Protects The Talent

My very first mentor, Ben Masselink, said those words to me the last time I saw him. I wish he was still here to see that I took many of his lessons to heart. But I have a feeling that Ben knows what I've been up to.

So as I go into lock down mode to meet my February 15th deadline, I want to leave you with the 7 Healthy Habits of the Happy Writer. I promise not to be gone for long, but in the meantime, if you feel like you can't type one more word, or that your work will never be good enough, think of what Wonder Woman would do. Do you think she'd give up while fighting for our rights in her satin tights?

  1. Writes to strengthen her voice

  2. Makes time to write, rather than wait for the right time

  3. Knows an excuse when she hears one

  4. Listens to her instincts

  5. Erases failure from her vocabulary

  6. Writes through the pain

  7. Has the courage to overcome and learn from rejection

Luv & Besitos,
Mary

I’m so the happy writer…except for the fact that you’re going underground. You’re killin’ me! I’ll miss you. Happy Writing. :)

Discipline Protects The Talent

I was just telling myself that I need more discipline. Thanks for sharing the quote and the 7 Habits of a Happy writer. I am going to print them out along with Discipline Protects The Talent and hang them over my computer. Thanks again.

Hmm,I know the excuses cause I made them all haha.

I can work through pain...morphine can be great.

This is a great post but I think I'd rework that deadline. I hate doing work on the day before, during and after a holiday. So, the 13th,14th and 15th are all marked off as busy lol.

Of course I dont always get what my diva assets wants, since this year I have a doc appt. on the 14th. I know docs love money but dang..dont they have better things to do on V-day.

Have a great day and happy writing,

Shawn, it really makes me feel good that Ben's words are helping another writer! Keep up the dream!

Rework the deadline? Ha ha! hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Sorry. Since I'm legally and financially obligated to my publisher, there's no such thing as a holiday or weekend when it comes to making a deadline.
